Danville Locomotive (0-1-0) played their inaugural match in the Ohio Valley Premier League this past Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend against the defending league champions Evansville Legends FC (2-0-0). Locomotive went up 1-0 in the first half on a top corner finish from Danville native Alec McAlister. ELFC made it 1-1 right before halftime. Evansville made it 2-1 midway thru the 2nd half when the central defense got caught out of position. Locomotive had 3 chances to make it 2-2 but could not find the net. Evansville found their 3rd goal in injury time with Locomotive chasing the game.

Danville Locomotive (1-1-0) hosted Hoosier FC (0-1-0) in their 2nd match of the OVPL season. On one of the hottest days of the year, both teams played a low pressure first half trying to maintain possession and control of the game. The match went into halftime 0-0. Halftime festivities included a $10,000 Cross Bar Challenge sponsored byFirst Southern National Bank. Locomotive started the 2nd half playing a high press and eventually caught HFC in possession. The First Southern National Bank Man of the Match, Sota Ippongi, stole the ball and beat the HFC goalkeeper to make it 1-0. With HFC pushing to find the equalizer, Ippongi found Dylan Barnes on the break who neatly finished to make the match 2-0.

Danville Locomotive (1-2-0) hit the road for a mid-week match at the Indy Saints FC (1-1-0). Locomotive got off to a slow start conceding an early goal before Lexington native Drew Doza found Danville native Sam Brunner to make the game 1-1. The Indy Saints went on to score a second goal before halftime to make it 1-2. Early in the second half Locomotive had a penalty kick opportunity but could not convert. It was not long after the Indy Saints made it 1-3 before Doza again Brunner for a goal. With the match at 3-2, Locomotive gave up the 4th goal late while trying to find the equalizer.

Danville Locomotive (2-2-0) returned home for a match against Cincy SC (1-3-0) at Amend Field. In front of the largest crowd so far of the summer, Locomotive came out on the front foot and scored 2 first half goals.
Drew Doza found Sota Ippongi for the first goal and Doza went it alone to make it 2-0 before halftime. The long weather delay did not seem to disrupt Locomotive’s play as Ben Kaindu took over the 2nd half with a brace and a final score of 4-0.

Danville Locomotive (2-3-0) traveled up to Cincinnati for the 5th match of the season at Valhalla FC (7-0-0). Locomotive again had a slow start while on the road and Valhalla FC proved to be too much on the day. Valhalla FC scored 2 first half goals and added 2 more in the second half. Locomotive’s Ben Kaindu continued his scoring streak by adding a goal late. At the halfway point in their inaugural season in the OVPL, Locomotive sits 6th in the standings with matches against 2 of the top 3 in the coming weeks.

Danville Locomotive hosted the OVPL division leaders Valhalla FC in a key league match-up on Friday night. Locomotive went down 0-1 to start the game but hit 3 goals to lead 3-2 at halftime. It was not #GoLoco’s night as the match ended 4-3 and sealed the regular season championship for Valhalla FC.

Danville Locomotive returned to action on Sunday evening against Pro FC at Amend Field. In a spirited game, Locomotive came out on top 3-1 behind goals from Dylan Barnes, Jackson Kirn, and Josh Davis.

Danville Locomotive traveled up I-75 for a return match v. Cincy SC. In another break out scoring match for Locomotive, the team scored 4 to win the match 4-0. Two goals from Ben Kaindu along with goals from Sota Ippongi and Drew Doza finished off the match for #GoLoco.

Danville Locomotive made their final trip of the summer up to Cincinnati against 2nd placed NKY Nitro FC. Playing on a very tiny field, the game lacked rhythm. Locomotive had several chances to take the lead but could not find the back of the net. At the very end of the 1st half, NKY Nitro FC made it 0-1. After a weather delay, both teams picked up play and #GoLoco’s Iain McAlister made it 1-1 before NKY Nitro would again find the back of the net to make it 1-2. Locomotive stayed the course though and found a late equalizer from Keenan Wilson to finish 2-2.

Danville Locomotive welcomed FC Indiana for the final match of the summer at Amend Field. In front of the largest crowd of the summer, Locomotive put on a show, winning 4-1. Jackson Kirn got things started from a set-piece with Alec McAlister making it 2-0 at halftime. #GoLoco did not let up in the 2nd half, putting in two more goals from Kingsley Nuro & Keenan Wilson. FC Indiana would score late to finish the game 4-1.
